Being a Sperm Donor

As a sperm donor in Seattle Sperm Bank you participate in helping childless people all over the world. You will be assigned a donor number and an ID-card. You can donate on your own time schedule. Our clinic is open for receiving donations Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, Saturdays from 9 AM to 2 PM. An average donor will donate 6-10 approved specimens per month.

FAQ

Q: How can I become a donor?
A: To become a donor you need to fill out the online application and then you will be contacted via e-mail to set up the first screening appointment.

Q: What will my first screening appointment entail?
A: You will come in to provide your first specimen for analysis only. There will be a brief questionnaire to fill out at your first appointment (this should take no longer than 10-15 minutes). You will need to bring photo identification.

Q: How much will I be compensated?
A: Once you are approved you will receive $60.00 per donation, for specimens that meet the SSB quality standards. $40 is paid in cash when delivering the specimen. The remaining $20 are paid when the specimen has gone through the final approval.

Q: How often can I donate?
A: You are able to donate two to three times per week, depending on the quality of your specimen. You are required to donate at least one time per week.

Q: Why do I have to have a minimum of 48-72 hours of abstinence between every donation?
A: You need to have a minimum of 48-72 hours abstinence because this will provide the specimen with the highest/optimal sperm count. If the specimen is provided with less abstinence than 48 hours the sperm count will be decreased by varying percentages, and therefore may not be approved by the SSB quality standards.

Q: How long will it take for me to become an approved donor?
A: The entire process to become an approved donor takes 4-6 weeks. This process includes specimen screenings, genetic interviewing, physical examination, urine specimens, and blood testing.

Q. Is there parking available?
A. There is free parking available in the underground garage that is attached to the building or in the University Village parking lot across the street.

Q. Why do I have to inform you of my height, weight, ethnicity, and occupation? A. We distribute all over the world so this information is important because we strive to provide a diverse donor catalogue.
